Buying luxury cars isn't just a matter of passion, but often an investment. The Porsche 911 is one of the few models where a car's age doesn't automatically mean a decline in buyer interest. The Polish CARFAX database lists over 8,000 examples of this model, 43% of which are over 15 years old. Despite this, the average mileage is 84,000 km, significantly less than the 206,000 km for all cars in the database. The model also stands out for its ownership structure: 25% of units have remained with the same owner since first registration.

When it comes to luxury cars, the purchasing decision usually goes beyond the mere need to own one. For some buyers, it's a matter of passion, for others a way to invest capital, and often a combination of both. However, it's important to remember that in the automotive industry, investment potential isn't solely determined by the logo on the hood. A good example is the Porsche 911, a model produced for over 60 years and enjoying the status of an automotive icon, says Robert Lewandowski, Business Development Manager at CARFAX Polska, a company providing used car history reports from reliable and certified sources. "The user isn't buying a legend, but a specific example, the value of which depends on a multitude of factors – from the obvious, like the model series, technical condition, and service and accident history, to factors often known only to brand enthusiasts, such as the COA/PPS certificate or factory codes, such as M220. Any amateur modifications or lack of matching numbers significantly reduce the value of a specific example. Only data can distinguish a car with collector potential from a costly, unfulfilled promise."

The Porsche 911 stands out from the rest of the cars in CARFAX's database, which covers over 21 million used cars in Poland, primarily for its mileage. Examples of this model have traveled an average of 84,000 km, compared to the database's average of 206,000 km. The difference is also visible in ownership history. One in four Porsche 911s has remained in the same owner since first registration. This figure is 15% for all cars in the database.

Fewer imported units than other luxury brands

The origin structure of the Porsche 911 also stands out in the market. 49% of this model was imported from abroad. For all used cars in Poland, the import rate is 65%, a level also seen for other luxury brands, such as Maserati, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin. The percentage of cars with recorded damage is also lower than average – 42% for the Porsche 911, compared to 78% for all cars in the CARFAX database.

The average age of this model in Poland is 14, but 43% are over 15. For comparison, the average age of all cars in the database is 15.5 years, and the share of cars older than 15 years is 59%.

The low average mileage of these cars is excellent news for the market, but it also hides certain pitfalls, adds Robert Lewandowski, Business Development Manager at CARFAX Polska. "Cars that spend most of their time in the garage as an investment often suffer from so-called standstill issues. For a seasoned collector, what matters is not only that the car has only covered tens of thousands of kilometers, but also whether it has been regularly serviced during its many months of inactivity. A vehicle history report allows you to verify not only the mileage but also the chronology of service. Without this, purchasing a "garage gem" may result in unexpected and very high costs to restore it to full working order."

Check in advance to avoid costly hidden surprises.
